There are a lot of ways to get around Salento but nothing is better than the automobile. With so many beaches and towns to visit, there is nothing better than to have the freedom to drive to the daily destination of your choice. If you are adventurous, you can try scooters or bicycles but be warned that the roads (and especially highways) are full of speeding cars and you will rarely find space onthe side of the road to safely travel slowly. There is an excellent bus system within Salento that is clean and affordable, and surprisingly reliable. It travels to the main destination points such as Otranto, Lecce, Gallipoli, and Leuca. But for the most fun and freedom, there is no better way to enjoy all of Salento than with your own automobile.
