PORTO CESAREO

IONIAN COAST

Porto Cesareo is situated along the Ionian coast on the Taranto Gulf and seems at first glance to be a typical southern fishing village, with narrow alleys, whitewashed houses, bougainvillea and flower vines, and a lively harbor full of seafood restaurants. But it also has over 17 km of beaches and a little offshore a myriad of small islands, the largest of which is the Isola dei Conigli. The area is the seat of a marine park and sanctuary, and if you like diving, you can find some amazing underwater landscapes near Porto Cesareo. This area is also famous for kite-surfing, a sport that has gained in popularity in Italy in recent years.

The two most important sights in and around Porto Cesareo are the natural reserve Porto Selvaggio and the Museo Talassografico which houses a collection of Mediterranean marine fauna.
